A Journal

TheAtelier

Where every KLOV garment is begun, slowly, for one person.

I

Our philosophy

Slowness as a kind of care

KLOV began with a simple refusal: to make anything that no one had asked for. We hold no stock and no seasonal surplus. A garment exists only once someone is waiting for it.

This lets us spend our time where it matters — on cloth, on hand, on fit — and lets every piece carry the story of the person it was made for.

No stock. No surplus. One garment, one woman.

II

Hand embroidery

Drawn in thread

Every motif in Once Upon A Time — the lilies, the climbing ivy, the night-blooming flowers — is first drawn by hand, traced onto the cloth, and then embroidered by our artisans in silk and cotton thread.

A single panel can take several days. The slight irregularities you'll find are the signature of a human hand.

Silk and cotton thread, worked on a frame.

III

Beadwork

Light, stitched in

Pearls, glass and bugle beads are sewn on one at a time, each secured with its own knot so it will not fall away. We place them where light would naturally catch — a neckline, a cuff, the fall of a hem.

You may ask for lighter or fuller beadwork, or describe something entirely your own.

Each bead secured with its own knot.

IV

Made to order

Begun only when it is yours

When you place an order, your choices — colour, size or measurements, embroidery, beadwork, initials — travel with it to the atelier. Nothing is cut before then.

If you'd like a colour that isn't in the collection, we will source cloth and send you swatches to approve first.

Custom colours are approved by swatch before cutting.

V

Tailoring

A pattern drafted for one

For standard sizes, we refine our pattern to your chosen size. For custom measurements, a pattern is drafted from your figures alone — height, bust, waist, hips, shoulder, sleeve, garment and trouser length.

If anything seems unusual, we'll write to you before cutting, so the finished piece fits as it should.

We check every custom measurement with you.
